This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nitella flexilis (Linnaeus) C.Agardh

Type locality: "Habititat in Europae maritimis" [Maritime Europe] (Linnaeus 1753: 1157). Neotype: BM-SL (Wood 1960: 224). Notes: Neotype locality: England. Suffolk, Henly, near Ipswich; no data.
