Type locality: Heron Island, Queensland, Australia (-23.443539, 151.908005) (Wetherbee & al. 2025: [5]). Holotype: H. Verbruggen; September 2022; subtidal on sand on the reef edge, ca. 2 m deep. MELU MELUA137650a (Wetherbee & al. 2025: [5]).

Noun (singular possessive) (Latinised), in honour of Michael D. Guiry, Irish botanist.
